Tulips in Pella IA

April 19, 2010

Tulip Time is 3 weeks away but the tulips were absolutely gorgeous in Pella, Iowa, this last weekend. I got some beautiful photographs. We enjoyed dutch letter pastries and frosted sugar cookies from Jaarsma Bakery. We walked all around town to admire the tulips, other spring flowers and flowering trees.

Tulip Time is a great family outing as a day trip! You might have trouble finding a hotel room by now if you don’t have one already, but maybe some are still available. It is a very popular festival. Over 60,000 dutch letters are sold over the 3 days. This year it’s May 6, 7, & 8, 2010.

I’ll add my favorite photos as the week goes by….

The old high school building was my first photo op.

Totally awesome!!! Yea!! Here’s the news release:

PELLA — Central College was awarded a platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) for its newly constructed education, psychology and communication studies building, which opened this past fall. The building received 55 out of 69 possible credits for incorporating environmentally friendly building design and construction practices. Read more by clicking on the news release!!

Here’s more words towards the bottom middle of the page under Private Colleges on the CampusGreenBuilder website. It is also mentioned on New College Sustainability Efforts on The Dernogalizer. The KNIA/KRLS radio station blog also has an article. Here are some photos I took last Fall when Grandpa Ron and I were there.

The Education, Psychology and Communication Studies building is really beautiful!
