The Sky’s the Limit: Photographs of Aviation, Air Travel and Airports

March 27, 2010

Last time we flew to/from Portland International Airport I thoroughly enjoyed the aerial photography display of Portland by various photographers. I jotted down the websites of two of the photographers whose work I really admired before we had to run to our plane.

The first one is Bruce Forster at http://www.bruceforsterphotography.com/index.html – plan to spend some time viewing his wonderful images on his website! I love the symmetry in his work.

The second one is Daniel Root. His on-line http://www.danielrootphotography.com/portfolio.html portfolio is very different from his work on display at the airport in that it is totally people oriented. My favorite photo is in the People portfolio and it is the one of the grandfather and child having great fun on the beach. It is a wonderful portrait! I do wish he would add a portfolio of his airport work as well. Ha! I love googling! I found his blog which has some of his work that was at the airport! Yes! See the rest of his blog here!

Other exhibitors I found by googling:
I found Jon Ferrey’s work on his Facebook page. Here’s the photo gallery of his shots. I especially like the plane shadow and the highway interchange photos.

Here is an article about the exhibit on http://www.pmpnonline.com/portlandphotogalleries.htm – From your toolbar click edit, find and paste in: “The Sky’s the Limit” Aviation Photographs at Portland International Airport – That should get you to the blog about it quickly.

Clark Little Wave Photography is Gorgeous!

December 25, 2009

The January/February 2010 issue of Sierra Club’s Sierra Magazine has a wonderful cover article on Clark Little’s photography called “View from the Vortex” with totally awesome photos of surf, tubes and breaking waves. On the Sierra Club Magazine website, they also have a slideshow of more of Clark Little’s photos. So Cool!

Healing Exhibit by Linnea Lenkus

October 5, 2009

Linnea Linkus has a very special exhibit called ‘Healing’ of 35 portraits of children with special needs displayed to benefit The Steel Magnolias, the fundraising group of Stramski Children’s Developmental Center at Miller Children’s Center in Long Beach, CA. I read about it in the Long Beach Press-Telegram in an article written by Sue Manning of The Associated Press. Linnea Linkus’ photography is absolutely beautiful. Do explore her website and her blog! Perhaps consider purchasing her special book Healing which will also benefit The Steel Magnolias.

The ‘Healing’ exhibit opened last Friday, October 2, at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach. On October 10 the GLOBAL public debut of ‘Healing’ will be at the Phantom Galleries LA, 390 E. 3rd St in Long Beach at 8 pm.

The Fullerton Arboretum

September 23, 2009

A beautiful leaf of a Chinese parasol tree adorned the front page of yesterday’s Orange County Register. More photos were on-line at <a href="http://www.ocregister.com/. I found another beautiful storyblog accompanied by totally awesome photos at Swizzlestix. Information about the Fullerton Arboretum is here. It is celebrating its 30th anniversary this October as described in the Cal State Fullerton Daily Titan. There’s a Children’s Garden and child education activities. Museum info is here. Enjoy!

Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe and More

August 20, 2009

Summer days at the lake were always memorable! The August 2009 Sunset Magazine has two articles about lakes: Lake Tahoe – where Sand Harbor is the place to swim – and then the Top 10 Lakeside Camps – the on-line article has 15, including the best photo ops, sunsets, fun, small town feel, and four-star food!

Phantom Galleries

August 9, 2009

Phantom galleries are temporary art galleries that occupy vacant storefronts. It is an intriguing concept that Geralda Miller writes about in today’s Reno Gazette Journal. She interviewed photographers Dean Burton and Franz Szony and artist Chad Sorg. I agree with Chad Sorg that this is a great concept.
